The Use of Residence Time to Describe a Hillslope

Abstract:

Queueing theory has been applied to the determination of Soil Water Residence Time (SWRT) using an 18 year data set. The calculated SWRTs agree qualitatively with the lags exhibited by a 12 month running average plot of rainfall and streamflow. The characteristic SWRT curves derived for two parts of the record agreed well with each other, in spite of a significant drought during the later period.
