Abstract:

Coastal sediments are important hosts for pollutant trace metals. The concentration and distributions of heavy metals depend on factors such as grain size of sediments, availability and concentration of fines, mixing of saline and fresh wasters at the estuary mouths. It has been established in this work that fineness of sediment grains and high percentage of organic matter are of the limiting factors in the concentration and distribution of trace metals in sediments.
