Abstract:

The coastal protection efforts are compared in the Mississippi Delta and the Rhine Delta Although the Mississippi Delta in Louisiana is sometimes referred to as the 'Holland of North America' there are large differences between the two deltas. In spite of these differences, the two deltas suffer from the same problems, coastal erosion resulting in environmental damage and subsequent economic damage. The solutions found in both deltas to overcome this problem are sometimes quite comparable.
