Abstract:

A National Marine Mammal Tissue Bank (NMMTB) has been established as part of a comprehensive effort to obtain reliable information on contaminant levels in marine mammal tissues. A four component program consisting of the NMMTB, stranding networks, monitoring, and quality assurance has been developed. The development and current status of the NMMTB and its relationship to the other three components will be described.
