Abstract:

Although shore protection structures such as bulkheads and seawalls may provide protection to upland property owners, they bring with them numerous potential adverse environmental effects. As sections of Puget Sound's shoreline become increasingly armored, the cumulative impact of these environmental effects becomes a serious concern. The authors discuss a number of potential environmental problems that may result from shoreline armoring.
