Abstract:

This paper presents the first results of the Sea Sentinels-a project for monitoring nearshore wave conditions in Brazil by means of visual observations. The observation techniques used in the project are described and a field test comparing visually estimated and instrumentally measured wave height and period is presented. Preliminary results from the first year of observations are also discussed.
