The Transrapid Maglev System

by William W. Dickhart, III, Transrapid Int, Munich, Germany,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: High Speed Ground Transportation Systems I: Planning and Engineering

Abstract:

The Transrapid 300 mph (500 km/hr) magnetically levitated transportation system is ready for revenue application and is under consideration for several sites in the U.S. The maglev system uses contactless electromagnetic suspension and three phase long stator propulsion. It has little effect on the environment and is safe and cost effective. The paper includes the history of the development, a technical description of the system and the first application in the U.S.
