Abstract:

The widespread industry practice of using civil engineering software modified for the design of High Speed Rail alignment is inefficient and produces inadequate results. Advances in computer technology and remote sensing instrumentation now make it possible to develop a single comprehensive system for automating alignment design. An automated alignment design would provide numerous efficiencies over current methods.
