Abstract:

California's Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is teaming with public and private organizations in the research and development of Smart Traveler systems to provide operators, passengers and other transportation decision-makers with better information and transactional services involving regional public transportation service options. Ultimately, travelers will access these systems from home, office or while en-route to determine the best travel itinerary meeting their own individual criteria (e.g., cost, trip duration, number of transfers, accessibility) given real-time transportation system and weather conditions.
