Abstract:

A knowledge-based system for the maintenance of over two hundred timber Warren truss buildings is being developed at the Royal Military College of Canada by the Knowledge-Based Expert Systems Group. The system, upon completion, will have four sub-systems related to the analysis, inspection, repair and maintenance of all timber trusses. One of which is the inspection and damage assessment of the trusses. The principle objective of the assessment process is to determine the appropriate action required to repair or reinforce defective members. This paper describes the design and development of an object-oriented system for the damage assessment of timber trusses.
