Abstract:

The coefficient subgrade reaction is a concept used to generate spring constants which are commonly used to model the foundation subgrade in the analysis of mat foundations. This paper discusses a study in which linear elastic finite element analyses were performed to derive values of coefficient subgrade reaction for plane strain conditions. As such, the results are particularly applicable for the design and analyses of cut-and-cover tunnel with flat base slabs, or other similar structures. The focus of this paper will be on the methodology for deriving the results, with a limited discussion of its application to structural analysis.
