Abstract:

Knowledge processing by CAD systems poses challenging problems for the efficient integration of design and construction processes. While CAD systems have been applied to various phases of building construction to improve productivity in drawing activities, the current challenge is to systematize knowledge processing using CAD systems, such as technical standard review, investigation of constructibility and management of production information. This paper presents the results of CAD applications in several construction projects and analysis of drawing object categories and elements utilized in working drawings. Also, further research issues to establish more effective product design system are discussed.
