The 3D Approach to Design

by Glenn S. Orenstein, Stone & Webster Eng Corp, Boston, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Computing in Civil and Building Engineering

Abstract:

Designing directly in three dimensions, including integrated analysis and information flow, is a powerful way to enhance civil engineering capabilities. Yet, relatively few have taken advantage of this developing technology. This paper explores reasons for employing 3D design, cites capabilities 3D design provides, and notes some of the limitations that can be expected when working with integrated 3D design.
