Abstract:

In this study, a single point moored spherical buoy under wave and current loadings is analyzed in the time domain considering time memory effects. Geometric nonlinearity of the mooring line and the viscous effects of the fluid are considered. Hydrodynamic wave forces on the body are evaluated using the finite element model based on linear potential theory. Example analysis is carried out for a waverider buoy with a mooring line in regular wave conditions. Comparisons with the linearized solutions show that the nonlinearities of the mooring line are fairly significant for surge and pitch motions and the mooring line tension.
