Abstract:

Structural safety of reinforced concrete bridge piers supporting highway traffic is studied. Reliability indices for flexure, shear, and combined flexure and axial load limit states at ultimate are evaluated for a typical hammerhead pier. The statistical parameters of the resistance are determined using simulation and integration methods. The probabilistic load models are compiled from the available literature.
