Abstract:

This paper briefly discusses the bending strength and stiffness of concrete filled grid decks that are subjected to static loads. The influence of design parameters (traffic flow direction, support conditions, and type of load) on strength and stiffness of filled decks is discussed. The paper also compares the bending strength and stiffness of fully filled rectangular and skewed grid decks, and over-laid concrete decks utilizing our experimental data. Skewed decks showed higher strength than rectangular decks. Fully filled decks exhibited similar strength and stiffness characteristics under positive and negative bending loads.
