Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Dynamic Analysis and Design Considerations for High-Level Nuclear Waste Repositories

Abstract:

This paper describes three important steps in the design process of repository surface facilities: (1) Establishing performance requirements and risk levels, (2) translating performance requirements into acceptance criteria, and (3) defining loads and accident scenarios. It also discusses the significance of understanding the structural behavior and failure modes of safety-related structures, systems, and components. A brief discussion on the applicability of existing codes and standards is also presented.
