Abstract:

This paper presents the FEDIT Data Input Preprocessor for FHWA's soon-to-be-released microscopic freeway simulation program - FRESIM. FRESIM (Halati, 1990, 1991) is a powerful freeway design and operations analysis tool capable of analyzing, in great detail, large, complex, or unusual freeway geometric configurations and can help identify complicated and detailed interactions among different design, control, and traffic variables. An efficient method of preparing the input data, while minimizing data input errors and the typical 'code-execute-debug' cycle, is through the use of the FRESIM Freeway EDITor program - FEDIT (Mekemson and Kanaan, 1990).
