Abstract:

This paper describes the use of a Pavement Management System (PMS), and the integration of the pavement condition data with a Geographic Information System (GIS). In June 1988, the Pavement Management Research Team at the University of Rhode Island assisted the Town of South Kingstown, Rhode Island in implementing a pavement management system. Further development has been done to integrate the town's PMS data with a GIS. This paper serves as a guide to cities and towns that wish to implement this technology and practice.
