Abstract:

Shabanie and King Mines are situated in the Southern part of Zimbabwe, some 60 km apart and approximately 200 km east of Bulawayo. They are the largest underground operations in Zimbabwe and the largest Chrysotile Asbestos Mines in Africa. Shabanie Mine has a milling capacity of 2.4 million tonne per year and King Mine mills approximately 1.7 million tonne per year. The article describes the reinforced shotcrete linings constructed in this mines under very difficult high stress mining conditions.
