Advanced Structures in Very Deep Water

by Richard J. Seymour, Offshore Technology Research Cent, College Station, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Civil Engineering in the Oceans V

Abstract:

Factors which are largely economic will lead to the requirement to design and deploy small numbers of large platforms and large numbers of small platforms in water depths of up to 4 km within the next two decades. The differing environmental loads that complicate the design and increase the costs of these deep water platforms are discussed and the impacts noted on the education and training requirements of future civil engineers.
