Abstract:

This proceedings, Stability and Performance of Slopes and Embankments II, consists of papers presented at the Specialty Conference sponsored by the Geotechnical Engineering Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers held in Berkeley, California, June 29-July 1, 1992. The conference provided a forum for the discussion of advances in the analysis and design of slopes and embankments, review of new data on performance, presentation of recent developments in remediation, and forecasting of future developments. Some of the topics covered by this proceedings are: 1) Soil property evaluation; 2) static stability and deformation; 3) seismic stability and deformation; 4) stability of landfills; 5) residual strength evaluation; and 6) site improvement or remediation. This proceedings provides the engineer with the opportunity to assimilate new information and cope with the joint challenge and trauma that change inevitably brings.
