Abstract:

Twelve welded high strength steel cruciform specimens were tested under stochastic loadings to determine the influence on fatigue life of the bandwidth of the loading process. Constant amplitude fatigue tests were also conducted to characterize the fatigue behavior under constant amplitude loads. In doing so, comparisons could then be made between the variable amplitude fatigue tests and fatigue life predictions based on a common analysis techniques such as rainflow analysis. Comparison of experimental results with analytical prediction indicates good agreement.
