Abstract:

This paper promotes an improved understanding of the type of earthquake motions felt at V.C. Summery, Perry and Krsko nuclear power plants. An analytical investigation is performed to describe how the Krsko earthquake might be influenced by soil/structure interaction effects including several parametric studies to account for uncertainties in the soil properties. The analysis takes into account nonlinearity of the soil material, radiation and hysteretic damping, structural embedment, and structure/structure interaction. Results of analysis show clear evidence of soil/structure interaction, nonlinear softening of the soil material and encouraging qualitative and quantitative agreement with the recorded measurements. The structural response motions display high rocking mode.
