Abstract:

This paper proposes a set of reliability-based proof load factors for highway bridge evaluation, to determine target proof load and load rating. The target safety index used is consistent with current practice. The proposed factors assure a relatively uniform level of bridge structural safety. Possible changes in input data and probability distribution assumptions in the reliability models will not affect the results obtained here. These factors may be included in specifications for highway bridge evaluation by proof testing.
