Abstract:

To determine accurate estimates for the system reliability of large complex structures requires considerable computation; unless the problem is assessed in an efficient manner the analysis can readily become impractical. A unified analysis approach is discussed based on combining a number of Monte Carlo simulation techniques together with information from first order reliability analysis. The approach, which was developed primarily for the ultimate strength analysis of offshore steel jackets, is versatile and can be efficiently applied to a variety of problems.
