Abstract:

An overview is presented on reliability-based timber design code activities in various major timber producing and consuming countries. The overview is based on information generated through a NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Reliability-Based Design of Engineered Wood Structures and on the authors personal discussions with key code experts. Technical similarities and differences between timber design codes are highlighted. Recommendations are provided for U.S. activities which can enable the international harmonization of reliability-based timber design codes.
