Abstract:

This study focuses on the problems of simulating the coastal currents and their effect on the distribution of heated cooling water from the Ul-Jin power plant into coastal waters of Korea East Sea. The generation of the local eddy field is found to play a critical role in recirculating the heated cooling water. The horizontal extent of a 1 ?C temperature rises without the eddy field is about 2.5 km southward, whereas that with the eddy field is increased to be 3 km to the south and 0.5 km to the north, respectively.
