Abstract:

A directly linked graphical post-processor has been developed for the Corps of Engineers' CE-QUAL-W2 (W2) Model. The post-processor allows the quick visualization and verification of the model discretization scheme and the velocity fields for any number of time periods. Contours at any time and time series analysis for any dependent variable can also be quickly viewed. These results can be output to the screen or a wide variety of printers and plotters. The post-processor is named NAG (Numerical Approximation Graphics) and is written for an MS-DOS environment requiring 640K of available RAM. It was adapted for the W2 model and that version is called W2-NAG. NAG is written in C in modular form for easy development for any two-dimensional model using finite-difference, finite-element or any other spatially discretized numerical scheme. NAG is menu driven, with mouse support, for rapid selection of options and ease of program use. Complete customization of graphical output including size of plot, scale of plot, output units for both the model spatial coordinates and the dependent variables, control over colors, velocity vector scaling and many other parameters is available. Any number of time snapshots of output from the model can be viewed easily and quickly.
