Abstract:

The results of a year-long effort to develop a design concept for the structure of a 16 meter lunar optical telescope are presented. Various mounting configurations and mirror configurations are considered. Triangular mirror segments and a braced tripod mount are investigated. The dynamic behavior of the telescope is studied. An estimate of the mass of the proposed telescope structure is reported.
