Abstract:

A mathematical model is developed which accounts for the non-linear material characteristic of concrete members. The axial and transverse motions of concrete columns, are found to be second-order and fourth-order, non-linear partial differential equations, respectively. These equations are then reduced to a set of coupled non-linear differential equations in terms of time-dependent modal coefficients. The governing equations are employed to investigate parametric stability of a simply supported concrete column.
