Abstract:

Impeller is the most critical component of centrifugal compressors. The mechanical efficiency and durability of the impeller determines the performance of the compressors. The shapes and contours of the impellers are frequently modified to ensure safe and continuous equipment operations and to improve the performance and reliability of the products. With increasing impeller complexity and rotor speeds, the design process becomes difficult and an automatic and systematic approach becomes necessary. An expert system based on the finite element methods and optimization techniques is presented in this paper to meet these design requirements.
