Abstract:

The behavior of a thin-walled ppen section composite material beam depends on the anisotropic mechanical properties of the panels that form the beam. A beam theory has been proposed for the analysis of such beams subjected to transverse loads. The theory has been verified for prelimary hand-calculation analysis by finite-element analysis. The experimental validation of the theory is described in this paper. Few prior experimental investigations of coupled deformation in open section thin-walled composite beams, subjected to transverse loads, have been reported.
