Abstract:

It has been previously reported that the strength and critical strain of concrete under impact increase with strain rate, but neither of them can predict failure. A cumulative damage parameter is proposed for concrete under uniaxial dynamic compressive loading, which is the time integral of an amount by which the compressive stress pulse exceeds the compressive yield stress. When damage is increased up to a critical value, the maximum stress of the specimen occurs.
