Abstract:

Various approaches have been developed for the frequency-domain dynamic response analysis. The one proposed by M. Novak (1974) is simplest of all and yet produces the results very close to those computed by far more complex rigorous approaches des[ite its significant simplification. T. Nogami (1986, 1988) has extended it for the time-domain. However, this approach fails to produced meaningful results at frequencies below the fundamental natural frequency of the ground. A new approach presented in the paper is simple next to Novak's approach but works well at any frequency including the static condition.
