Abstract:

The short-time behavior of a finite Timeshenko beam on a Winkler foundation subjected to step and impulse loadings is presented. The transient behavior was analyzed by using the method of direct analysis. Results of the analysis show the effect of traveling waves on shear, moment, and deflection. For the range of conditions investigated, the relationship between the dynamic response factor and the ratio of pulse duration/natural period forms two plateaus due to the effect of reflected traveling waves.
