Abstract:

Following brief historical remarks, the equations of the hypercircle and hypersphere of Prager and Synge and associated formulae for pointwise bounds are derived. The application of the method to very large rigid-jointed plane frames is discussed, and numerical results for a 20 bay, 50 story structure are presented.
