Abstract:

The vortex motion behind submerged breakwaters in the nearshore region is studied. The RCPWAVE model (Ebersole et al., 1986) is used to calculate the wave field and thus the radiator stresses are obtained. The wave induced vortex motion is predicted from the governing equations that incorporate the radiation stresses. The relations between the vortex patterns and the factors, such as offshore distance and spacing of submerged breakwaters, are illuminated.
