Abstract:

The Acoustic Emission Technique (AET) is known as a good possibility for non destructive detection of cracks in metal down to very small dimensions. To use AET for concrete, an efficient instrumentation for data acquisition and a comprehensive analysis of the signals are required. A measuring device on the basis of a multi-channel transient-recorder was developed at the FMPA. During laboratory tests the wave propagation of the p-, s- and surface-waves in specimen out of concrete or reinforced concrete were investigated. Under field conditions preliminary tests to detect cracks in catching basins (chemical industry) were conducted.
