Abstract:

The Helen Kramer Landfill ranked fourth on the EPA's National Priorities List and the estimated cost of clean up was about $39 million. By value engineering selected parts of the suggested remediation plan, however, URS Consultants, Buffalo, NY, was able to cut costs by $3.2 million dollars without reducing the quality or reliability of the planned treatment. Virendra Singh, M.ASCE, is vice president at URS Consultants, Buffalo, NY, and was project manager on the site. Amy Monti is a project manager with the firm and has developed numerous ground-water models and feasibility studies for Superfund sites.
