Abstract:

This study was focused on the dynamic response of concrete interfaces under the effects of impulsive loads, and the relationship between the interface shear transfer and the response in the time and frequency domains. The approach employed for the study consisted of 3-D finite element analyses of a concrete interface model, and included a physics-based mechanism of interface shear transfer in reinforced concrete. The motion-time histories obtained from the analysis were studied in both the time and in the frequency domains for understanding the interface behavior. Comparisons with experimental data from a parallel study indicated that the proposed numerical approach could be used for simulating the physical behavior.
