Abstract:

This paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the newest technology for the data collection requirements of an airport interested in implementing a pavement management system. A device which is equipped with a 35mm continuous photographic camera was utilized to assess pavement condition. The paper specifically addresses the capabilities of the filming apparatus, the preparation efforts required prior to filming, as well as the actual filming sequence itself. The manual interpretation of the film versus the manual survey procedures are also discussed in terms of adequacy and cost-effectiveness.
