Abstract:

Following the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, the California Department of Transportation was designated as the lead agency to seismically retrofit all 23000+ public owned bridges in the State of California. In a cooperative effort between the local and state agencies, these bridges were reviewed and prioritized based on the criteria developed by Caltrans. To expedite the prioritization process, while the screening process was under way, a database was created to inventory the bridges. Additional information regarding structural characteristics and geotechnical data were incorporated.
