Abstract:

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) and University of Minnesota officials, realizing that Minnesota was among the leaders in both research and implementation of advanced technology decided to develop a formal partnership for the development of advanced vehicle/highway systems technologies. It was concluded that the technical components of this joint program would emphasize advanced traffic management systems (ATMS) and advanced traveler information systems (ATIS), and that the program name would be Guidestar. This paper describes the program; the development of the Guidestar research efforts; seven major research components; and resources for Guidestar research.
