Abstract:

HNTB is developing integrated computer systems utilizing standard hardware and software platforms coupled with graphical user interfaces for traffic management systems (TMS). Rapid, user-friendly monitoring and control of numerous TMS sub-systems will improve the flow of traffic and provide the framework for a system-wide flow of information. However, while the technology is available, the procurement and implementation of state-of-the-art TMSs run contrary to many standard highway construction practices.
