Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Applications of Advanced Technologies in Transportation Engineering

Abstract:

A complete system of traffic management consisting of both collective and individual components is described. As a result of German and European initiatives problems, a system introduction in three steps is proposed, i.e. the digital traffic message channel (RDS-TMC) (Braegas et al., 1986) in the first step, information and access-control beacons in a second step and finally a beacon assisted infrastructure which handles all type of vehicle-roadside communication needed for automatic debiting, pre-booking of parking space and individual driver guidance including situation-dependent recommendations to change over to public transport.
