Abstract:
Bus pre-emption strategies are designed to provide priority to transit buses over passenger cars for urban travel. A comparative analysis of a proposed suburban bus service for regular operation versus prioritized operation is presented. The study shows that reduced travel time brought about by pre-emption, if properly implemented, may translate to a smaller fleet size and a lower cost of operation.
