Abstract:

The Florida Department of Transportation contracted with the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida to conduct an analysis of automatic vehicle identification (AVI) and its potential application on Florida's Turnpike. The project included three phases: (1) a review of the state of the art of AVI technology, (2) survey research relating to the attitudes and characteristics of current Turnpike patrons, and (3) an evaluation of the specific application of AVI technology to Florida's Turnpike.
