Yazoo River Basin a New Direction for the Corps

by Johnny G. Sanders, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Urban and Regional Conflict Resolution in Water Related Issues

Abstract:

The paper presents the lessons learned from the past events in the Yazoo Basin. The Yazoo Basin project is the only mechanism available that can provide the flood control that is needed in the basin and at the same time has an economic base strong enough for environmental designs that can restore the environment. The project gives the opportunity to operate and regulate water control systems such that early non-crop damaging flooding on 30,000 acres is possible for water fowl.
