Abstract:

In this paper we calculate optimum hollow fibre module designs for gas absorption by maximizing the mass transferred per unit cost. Two costs are considered; the membrane cost and the costs of pumping the two phases through the module. It is shown that an optimum fibre diameter exists which maximizes the mass transfer per unit cost. The theoretical predictions agree with the fibre diameters used commercially.
